Survivor 51 has been nothing but a roller coaster so far this season. Ups and downs, twists and turns...and we are SO along for the ride!
Fans agree that we're currently experiencing the best season of Survivor in quite some time, mostly thanks to the fact that production is allowing players to play the game rather than spend their days navigating new twists and advantages.
But based on the previews we've gotten for Survivor 51 episode 4, the road might end here for the fan love (though I hope not!) because it looks like we're not only getting an early tribe swap, but we're also going back to three tribes.
And while I hope there's more to it than just that, a simple tribe swap could still effectively change the game and cause some chaos. Because so far, everything we've expected to happen has had a slight tweak to it that's really making the open era live up to the hype.
So while we don't know exactly what's about to happen, there are still a few things to be aware of before the latest episode airs tonight, Wednesday, October 14 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+.

How to watch Survivor 51 episode 4
Though a tribe swap could bring massive gameplay opportunities, tonight's episode will still follow the standard 90-minute format that you can watch live on CBS as well as Paramount+ (with the premium membership that includes streaming your local CBS affiliate live). But of course, you can always stream it next-day on both Paramount+ and CBS online.
Tonight's episode is titled, "That's the Magic of Survivor" and the official synopsis for it is: "In a Tale of Two Tribes, one tribe feels torn apart in the aftermath of a divisive vote-out, while another tribe basks in unity, until an unexpected summoning changes everything. Then, old wounds and previous alliances are put to the test at Tribal Council, on SURVIVOR..."

Who is in danger going into episode 4?
Though he actually ended up in a better spot after mutinying last episode, I'm nervous for Carter Krull. If he is reshuffled to be on a tribe with a majority of old Savu players, he's an absolute easy vote-out not only because he was on the bottom previously, but because they hold some resentment for him switching tribes.
And yes, he does have the hidden immunity idol, but we've established at least twice already that Carter is not the most observant player in Survivor history—being completely blindsided by Ana Sani's vote and then missing the boat back to Savu. It genuinely wouldn't surprise me if we hit a trifecta for him by seeing him go home with an idol in his pocket.
There are a few other players who could be poorly affected by a tribe swap as well. Like Danny Kilby after Devin Way basically went to the Savu and told them he's a snake in the grass. But conversely, Devin could be in trouble as well for so openly giving out that type of informaiton. His former tribe mates and opposite castaways could see that as a dangerous action.
Dream choas scenario would be the Helicopter Alliance ending up on a tribe together and then having to vote out one of their own a la the Tuku Five on Survivor 47.

What can we expect in episode 4?
There's no doubt there's going to be a tribe swap, but I'm still a firm believer that after everything we've seen so far this season (and all the times Jeff Probst has said the words, "permanent uncertainty,") that it can't be as simple as going to three tribes.
The previews that have been shared so far this season have reminded me not to look for what we can see, but what we can't.
And in the "Next Time on Survivor..." preview from the end of last episode, we only saw two players at each camp after supposedly switching into three tribes. And all three pairs seemed to be having awkward alone time right in the middle of camp. That's suspicious to me.
I think something's going to happen to our 11 other players. After all, Rob quitting means the tribe swap is coming when there are 17 people left in the game, not 18. So it's highly likely the show had to pivot and try something new because of the number discrepancy.
While I've seen some fan theories that they could bring back an eliminated player to even out the tribe numbers for a swap, I don't ever see that happening in Survivor. The amount of exit care that players get just on that first night after their torch is snuffed is a massive advantage against everyone else. Only the Edge of Extinction twist could make a return fair to the current players and I doubt production has been keeping it a secret from the players and audience so far this season.
But I do really hope there's an "earn the merge"-style twist where only some players get a new buff and safety while other have to fight in an individual immunity challenge to earn safety and make it through the next Tribal Council.
Of course, we won’t know until tonight! And I can't wait to see what they come up with!
