We are just days away from the start of the newest season ofSurvivorand somehow the closer we get, the larger the picture of the season as a whole gets. As we start seeing more and more teasers andinterviews from Jeff Probst, this data-loving, analytical thinker is getting overloaded with predictions and possibilities becauseanything is possible!
It’s the start of permanent uncertainty, as Probst will not stop reminding us, and the perfect time for new fans to get started since there’s really nothing predictable planned that you need major background info on to understand.
Survivor 51premieres on Wednesday, September 23 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+.
As usual, the premiere episode of the new season is going to be extended from its standard 90-minute format to a two-hour premiere event. But each week after will return back to 90 minutes, unless otherwise announced.
You can watch live on your local CBS station or stream live on your local CBS station via Paramount+’s premium plan as well as multiple other digital TV streaming services that carry CBS (check your provider to see if you have access). ButSurvivorwill be available next-day to stream on Paramount+ for all membership tiers as well as on CBS.com. A reminder, however, that the weekly episode releases on CBS online won’t stay available forever. So if you’re hoping to binge the entire season for free before the finale, you might want to reconsider.
And like I said,Survivor 51is launching the open era where anything (and everything) is waiting for our castaways out on the island. And for the first time sinceSurvivor: Winners at War, we’re returning to the classic two starting tribes. Fans were getting bored of the predictable beginning of game formatting, so we’re so excited for this shake up and to see how it affects the game.
But for the first time inSurvivorhistory, we’re getting 21 players—starting on two tribes?How will that work?—the most besides last season’s milestone anniversary season of returning players. The season definitely has a smorgasbord of different castaways with some doctors, some lawyers, some farmers, some actors, some athletes…it will be interesting to see how they all come together to play the game—or how they all tear each other apart.
How can I prepare for Survivor 51’s premiere?
If you’re not watching live and don’t have streaming, make sure you check that your DVR is prepared to record the full two-hour premiere. If you’re planning to watch the next day, make sure to silent your social media notifications and be careful with your inbox in order to avoid spoilers.
Even if you are planning to watch live in a time zone other than Eastern Time, I recommend keeping off of the internet until after the show is finished airing in your area. Because the east coast broadcast airs first—and it’s a highly talked about premiere event—you might find yourself running into spoilers without meaning to.
