Instead of protecting a character’s image or hiding an earlier alliance, the Survivor Ghost Island episode 7 secret scene pays tribute to steak’s greatness.
Besides the overwhelming Canadianity within me, the number one reason why I will never compete on Survivor is that it would be near impossible to give up basic food in exchange for two tablespoons of rice a day for 38 days. Even the worst pizza in the history of television looks tantalizing to players, and it just makes you feel for the long-maligned Malolo losing almost every Survivor Ghost Island challenge.
Naviti was the primary winner of the episode 7 Reward Challenge, and it became immediately clear that enjoying tasty steak would play second to Bradley just making an ass out of himself for the entire episode. That’s why the steak-oriented portion and the reactions from the Naviti were cut and shelved as a secret scene, as it undercut the main plot.
The insights from the players could not be less important or entertaining from an editing standpoint. Chelsea has a confessional where all she says, verbatim, is, “Steak is my favorite thing in the world, so winning that reward was huge.” Libby follows up with the fact that her family owns a meat market and that the steak reminds her of home, so it at least ties into personal content a little bit.
In short, Chelsea says steak is her favorite food, Libby says the steaks remind her of home, Domenick gets a disturbing upward-angled shot of him eating, and Libby throws a bone into the Fijian oceans. That’s literally all this secret scene has to offer after weeks of seeing players like Chris talk class systems, Tarzan and Jen getting more intimate, and tons of other insights into the game.
