We knew it was coming, but the double elimination episode of Survivor Ghost Island delivered on the compelling storylines butting heads.

Last week, we saw the perils of making a big move with a group of players that don’t have your best interests in mind. There’s a reason why it’s hard to flip players in a game like Survivor; keeping the status quo with seven jury spots left to fill is perhaps the safest play to make. However, in a season like Ghost Island, a simple twist of fate could send the season’s players scrambling like mad, especially when a fifth of the castaways go home.

Episode 11 began on Night 27, with Domenick reaffirming her trust in Laurel. Kellyn is here in episode 11 saying “Naviti Strong” like it’s in the pre-merge stages, showing that she’s still fully game aware about the numbers and the alliances others share in the game. Laurel is a strong player, and you can’t keep her in the game forever.

Domenick made it clear that he was willing to cut Wendell if he needed to, but it didn’t sound like he wanted to just yet. Instead, he searched for even more power again, as it seems like being both a camp leader and having an Immunity Idol isn’t enough. Thankfully, all he received was just another fake idol, this time being Jay’s fake idol from Millennials vs. Gen X made by David Wright. Will someone fall for the ploy?

The Immunity Challenge saw everyone hold a pull-up bar, keeping a ball in place above each castaway’s heads. Splitting Lavita into two groups, each group would see one winner stay safe for a split-tribe Tribal Council, with the final player from each group winning Immunity. Furthermore, the tribe that finishes last gets to go to Tribal Council second, seeing who is voted out in the first.

The purple tribe faltered after a handful of minutes, with Jenna, Donathan and Sebastian falling quickly. Angela dropped out of nowhere, and Chelsea failed to hold onto her bar, ensuring that she’s both safe but goes to Tribal Council first. Kellyn lost quickly on the orange team, as did Michael who needed safety the most. Laurel followed, leaving Domenick and Wendell battling it out for Immunity. It was a jovial display, even though both players needed to stay safe.

Ultimately, Wendell couldn’t hold it together, leading to Domenick winning Immunity. It was the first Immunity win for a Survivor Ghost Island man and the first Immunity win for a man since Cole in Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers. All this took place within the first third of the episode, with players spending a lot of time scrambling at camp.

Michael pitched it to Donathan to borrow his idol for an hour just so that he can convince others on his small Tribal Council that he will stay safe. However, Donathan finally made a big move for his own game by not allowing it, forcing Michael to look for another option. The best move didn’t seem like a strong one, but Michael just straight up told Kellyn that he has an idol and will use it at Tribal Council.

For the second straight episode, Kellyn was edited to look paranoid and off-kilter. It’s a bit unfair, considering that Michael has already found two idols in Survivor Ghost Island and protected himself from the previous vote over Libby, but it put Wendell in an odd place once it became clear that Kellyn would vote against Laurel, his ally.

As Wendell and Laurel convened to discuss what to do, Kellyn made it clear in a confessional that she will use her Secret Advantage to put two votes on Laurel. With just five players at Tribal and one being safe, it’s perhaps the best chance she has to make the move impactful, especially when an idol is a threat to be played.

The third act focused on the purple tribe’s simple vote; between Jenna and Donathan. Of course, nothing is as simple as it seems, as Sebastian et al. decided to vote out Jenna and tell her that Donathan is the real target. For some reason, this prompted Jenna to comfort Donathan in letting him know that he’s going home, which got his heart and head racing.

After a chat with Laurel, Donathan tried to convince Jenna to vote Sebastian and that he’d use the idol on her. Somehow, this loyalty and brazen selflessness caused Jenna to incentivize herself to vote out Donathan even more. It’s an individual game, that’s for sure, but to trash Donathan’s game in the process seems a bit excessive.

Jenna and Donathan laid the cards on the table at Tribal Council, basically giving up on the fight and saying that one of the two would go home. Not much else was said, as Jeff Probst remarked that it was the fewest questions he’s had to ask at a Tribal Council ever. Quite fitting for a Tribal that had Jenna, Sebastian and Jenna in it.

Donathan did end up playing his idol but didn’t end up playing it for Jenna. Playing it on himself, he nullified Jenna’s vote against him but could not stop the three in favor for Jenna, sending her straight to the jury immediately in 10th place. That may be the reallest moment we’ll get all season, as the wound is so powerful and so raw, yet she can’t do anything about it for several hours’ time.

The orange tribe had a bit more of complexity to it, as it pretty much went down to a forward-facing vote of either Michael and Laurel. As Michael made it clear that he “has an idol” (he doesn’t), the conversation came down to just how pitiful it was to be a Malolo player, having Domenick and Wendell dictate who goes home from Malolo.

That sparked a hesitation moment between Wendell and Domenick, whispering about who to target. As the votes came out, Kellyn opted to use her Secret Advantage to vote Laurel twice. With Kellyn, Wendell, Michael and Laurel each receiving a vote, it was an extra vote for Laurel that put things between Michael and Laurel at 2-2-1-1. On the revote, Michael Yerger was finally sent home in 9th place, proving twice in the same episode that “Naviti Strong” is as strong as it will ever be.

Next week’s episode of Survivor Ghost Island is called “A Giant Game of Bumper Cars.” Just exactly who will be bumping up against each other? The way that sounds, perhaps “Naviti Strong” won’t hold all the way to the Final Tribal Council as players fight to share a day with their loved ones.
