Survivor Ghost Island: Double Tribal Council twist backfired
Survivor Ghost Island’s latest twist of having two Tribal Councils in the same episode still resulted in two old Malolo tribe members being sent home.
It was obvious that the main reasons for having two Tribal Councils in the most recent episode of Survivor Ghost Island was to, A) dwindle down the number of remaining cast members since the season should be about over here soon, and B) try and shake things up by getting out a Naviti tribe member. While A happened, B did not. That was just the luck of the draw.
Production laid out the plan as best as possible, splitting the merged tribe into two teams. Those two teams would each participate in an Immunity Challenge, meaning one person was safe at each Tribal Council. The way the tribes were split up, however, still put old Malolo on the bottom no matter what.
Chelsea and Dom won immunity for their respective teams, which again, still meant the old Malolo was in danger of going home. For the first team to go to Tribal Council, it was between Donathan and Jenna as the two old Malolos and Jenna ended up being the target. Donathan did play his immunity idol, but Jenna would have been going home anyway.

For the second group, Michael tried all he could to stay, which included him lying about having an idol. The lying worked for Kellyn, who wanted to vote for Laurel, but in the end, Michael still went home.
I don’t think production could have tried any better to mix things up in the game. They had it backfire on them when the old Naviti tribe still had the numbers for both teams and that’s just bad luck.
There have been times where these type of twists have panned out with the most “unfair” one coming over a decade ago in Survivor Fiji. The big difference with that one was that only the losing team had to go to Tribal Council and poor Michelle Yi was the odd woman out when it came time to vote.

For the Ghost Island crew, this was definitely a way to shrink down the number of remaining cast members, but it was also hoping that things would get stirred up a bit and the Naviti faithful would have to turn on someone who had been loyal. In the end, that didn’t happen, and this was yet another twist in the Survivor history books that went down the toilet.
