One of the most bombastic early boots in Survivor history, Jacob Derwin is finally ready to open up about his (brief) time on the season and life afterward.
Garrett Adelstein. Jennifer Lanzetti. Jacob Derwin. These players were voted out second in recent seasons of Survivor, yet had a memorable exit during their brief time on the show. Jacob, particularly, had a momentous time, as he almost equaled (or bettered) two of the Ghost Island finalists in a sense of pure confessionals.
Though it may be a bit hard for some to watch someone’s dreams crash and burn over two hours, it’s got to be infinitely worse for the player, themselves. Thankfully, Jacob Derwin was a sport in recapping his experiences for the Survivor subreddit community, as he spent a few hours on Tuesday night answering questions from the fans.
I’m glad he found the Sierra Dawn Thomas Legacy Advantage handed to him on Ghost Island so infuriating (even if it didn’t make the edit). Regardless of me liking him as a contestant, having given the first advantage in the game, only to have it forcefully ripped from him just three days in and having being exiled, would be so frustrating to a player already on the outs.

Having also written about Survivor before being on the show, he also made poignant comments about how to criticize the game without actively being mean to players for no reason. Jacob Derwin also talked about his pursuit of a voice over career, his dirty joke-telling relationship with Stephanie Johnson and more. Plus, James Lim stopped by to say hello!
He also brought up the idea of Survivor needing a hard reset on the abundance of twists in the game. I see his point; the idea of anyone and everyone having an advantage make those without them cling onto security, making them passive. It also presents a gameplay imbalance, hence the kind of results where the two most power-rich players tied in the end.

All and all, Jacob Derwin has a lot to offer the community, and he’d be back again if the show would have him. Second Chances 2, anybody?
