One of the few original “Naviti Strong” players to make a move of their own, should Desiree Afuye appear in another season of Survivor in the future?

Heading into Survivor Ghost Island, it seemed like Desiree Afuye was going to be primed for an interesting character arc. She had been temporarily homeless in her past, and that experience of hunger, fear and survival at all odds is what this game is all about. Unfortunately, her time to strike came down at an inopportune time.

Desiree was mostly quiet for the first few episodes, as she was practically invisible until the second swap. However, she and Kellyn became the flag bearers of the “Naviti Strong” mentality on a tribe of five where Michael and James could be taken out on Malolo 3.0. She helped push that narrative forward and helped convince Angela not to flip, which would prove important for the season’s story.

She also had a bit of fire to her, and that shone through right before the final tribal Immunity Challenge. Sick of losing almost every single reward or immunity, she claimed that Malolo was a cursed tribe. She even suggested burning the tribe’s flag, which did help expel the demons of failure (even if it turns out that Domenick helped throw that challenge).

Even in the merge, her gameplay was one of survival through comfort by any means necessary. While Domenick and Chris were waging the merge war, she and Kellyn tried to stay strong to Naviti, arguing to throw votes onto the “untrustworthy” Libby.

It wasn’t until Libby was eventually voted out that Desiree knew she was on the bottom and had to make a move with the rapidly depleting Malolo numbers in order to take out the big threats of Domenick, Wendell and Kellyn. Unfortunately, she mentioned this to Laurel, who ratted her out and kept her alliance with Dom, Wendell and Donathan intact.
