When 12 players of various walks of life came together in Survivor Worlds Apart, their undying patriotism for America birthed their merge tribe.

Although I’m Canadian myself, I have felt the patriotism of Americans in my numerous trips to their great land. It’s a marked difference than what you see in the day-to-day Canadian life, showing an exceptional amount of pride in the nationality. It doesn’t show up much on Survivor, although it played a big part in Survivor Worlds Apart based on the makeup of the cast.

Though the game started out as a social experiment involving people of very different walks of life, modern seasons have mostly cast characters and players based on job affiliation, gender, skill set and more. Worlds Apart focused more on people’s status in America, dividing people by blue-collar, white-collar and no-collar tribes.

You saw a lot of good-hearted people on the blue-collar tribe, including hard workers and people with exceptional displays of patriotism. However, perhaps the strongest follower of the Constitution and all things America was Hali Ford. Then a law student, Hali’s easy going attitude and no-collar lifestyle provided a strong cover to hide just how smart she was.

One thing that helped solidify her cover as a smart player? Help support the most blue-collar merge tribe name in Survivor history. “Merica” was a “brilliant” concoction from Mike Holloway, speaking to the boiling pot demographics of the tribe. Red, white and blue came together, so it made perfect sense to him.

Hali, however, was the surprise backer of the name, showing her love for the Constitution as one of the greatest documents of justice. Thus, anything that is the backbone of the American way of life makes for a great name of people living in Nicaragua for a 39-day competition.
