As the summer CBS reality show ends, Survivor: David vs. Goliath begins on September 26 in a 90-minute extended debut episode.
Normally, CBS offers up Survivor fans a week off between their two hottest reality shows in order to get some cooldown for fans. 99 days watching the ins and outs of the Big Brother house is a lot for someone picking up the show, let alone someone who is going to watch Survivor afterward. This year, however, the island competition will start before the previous show even ends.
CBS has announced their 2018-2019 Fall television debut schedule, revealing that Survivor: David vs. Goliath will begin on Wednesday, September 26 from 8 p.m. ET to 9:30 p.m. ET. This likely means that we will see an extended debut episode where just one player is voted out of the game, similar to Millennials vs. Gen X. That season had a lot going on in its first three days, including a forced evacuation.
It also means that the Big Brother 20 finale will immediately follow suit, as the (presumably) Final Three will compete for the final Head of Household title, evict the third-place finisher, see the jury (sans third place) debate over who should win, go into jury deliberations, catch up with the pre-jury players, crown a winner and hand a $25,000 check to America’s Favorite Player.
Furthermore, Survivor will return to a regular one-hour time slot the following week on Wednesday, October 3 from 8 p.m. ET to 9 p.m. ET. The show will serve as a lead-in for SEAL Team in its second season, with Criminal Minds following at 10 p.m. Essentially, it will be the exact same deal as last year.

Considering that CBS’ high-budget drama has been picked up for a second season, we’ve already seen the network move its time slot around in order to serve the Wednesday night ratings juggernaut that is Survivor. Hopefully, that bodes well for another 90-minute debut for season 38, as filming has recently wrapped up.
