The third straight Goliath voted out from Survivor: David vs. Goliath explains why he lost that epic challenge and gives us the details about a key alliance.

It was sad to see one of the most exciting castaways of the season get his torch snuffed in last week’s episode of Survivor: David vs. Goliath. Alec Merlino was the most dominant physical threat of the season and shocked many of us with his willingness not only to talk about big moves but actually execute them! During his exit interviews with Rob Cesternino and Entertainment Weekly, Alec revealed some interesting details that aren’t in the edit.

Christian’s storytelling did rattle Alec during that Immunity Challenge. Alec explained how he just tried to get in a zone and stay focused in that grueling challenge, and that worked well for the first three hours. He wanted to give everyone else the impression that he wasn’t going to step down at all.

However, when Christian started talking, it was more difficult for him to focus. Alec mentioned how it was causing everyone including himself to crack up. He gives full credit to Christian being the Survivor beast he is and outlasting him to win Individual Immunity.

Medical took a look at Alec after the challenge. Towards the end of that epic challenge, we could tell that Alec wasn’t doing well, as he was looking dizzy and completely out of it. Alec revealed that medical did take a look at him after he stepped off to make sure he didn’t suffer any longer from dehydration. He said that it was all a blur and that was the most mentally tired he has ever been in his life!

Mike knew about Alec sharing information with the Davids. Ever since the tribe expansion, Mike and Nick developed a good relationship and formed their secret Rock Star alliance. Those two former Jabeni members were also part of Alec’s Strike Force. When Alec told Nick that the Goliaths were thinking about voting Christian, that was simply to prevent him from being surprised by the vote.

Did the “Rock Stars” break up? We’re not exactly sure how, but Mike was aware that Nick knew about the vote, and was ok with it since they were close and didn’t want to betray him. It turned out that Nick was more loyal to the Davids than they thought.

Alec mentioned how Mike was pissed that Nick told Davie and Christian where the vote was going. This might be the reason why we have seen so little of Mike strategizing with Nick since the merge, and this trend may continue for the rest of the season.

Alec discusses his Instagram post. Months before this season aired, Alec broke his confidentiality agreement with CBS by posting a selfie of him and Kara on Instagram. This offered CBS no choice but to ban Alec from the Survivor: David vs. Goliath reunion.

Alec stressed his utmost respect for Survivor, CBS and Jeff Probst and expressed his gratitude for having this once in a lifetime opportunity. He also mentioned that posts on social media can be misconstrued, but he takes full ownership for his action.

It’s unfortunate that it had to end like this for Alec, as this might be a reason why Alec won’t return in a later Survivor season. That being said, it was fun to watch him so far and it will be interesting to hear his viewpoint during Final Tribal Council.
