Last week’s premiere episode of Survivor: Edge of Extinction was a bit of a hot mess for everyone involved with the Manu tribe. Whether it’s Reem digging in her heels and leaving the game flailing (before heading to the spooky Extinction Island), Wendy refusing to let her go or the returning players getting targeted early, things are not going swimmingly.
Meanwhile, at the Kama tribe, things cannot be going better. The players have Joey Amazing as their leader, capable of climbing ropes, building shelter and winning Immunity Challenges. Sure, they could take or leave Aubry (some are even plotting to get her out), but with players receiving Secret Advantages with the pick of the litter as what to enjoy from the Advantage Menu, the tribe is set up to thrive.
This presents us with a dichotomy for how the Survivor returnees are set up. One tribe has a player who can’t swim to drag down in a tribal challenge where swimming is integral to Joe’s benefit. One tribe has two strategic threats who are worth more taking out early compared to another tribe that has a challenge beast that can keep the tribe away from Tribal Council.

As the sneak peek videos for Survivor: Edge of Extinction episode 2 showcase, the returnees are targeted by more people and more openly than ever before. It does not bode well for them, but perhaps it means we will see more of the newbie players who deserve their time in the sun!
