David Wright had another solid performance, cementing himself as the best-positioned returnee in Survivor: Edge of Extinction.

Coming into Survivor: Edge of Extinction, David was the most underrated returning player, having only played once before. In addition to that, while the other three returnees mentioned in pre-game interviews that they were focusing on their social game, David was just throwing out crazy strategies and fake advantage plans.

It looked like David was going to play too hard way too early, neglecting the value of sitting back and forming relationships. Once again, he has proven us wrong! His chill attitude made him very approachable to the rest of his tribe. In the first episode, everyone turned to him for shelter building advice.

We saw that trend continue in the second episode of season 38. David was able to form a strong pairing with Rick, as they both seem to trust each other 100%. This alliance, along with David’s approachable personality, enabled him to have full control over the Keith vote.

When Wendy voiced her opinion about targeting Wentworth, who did she go to? David and Rick. When Kelley figured out that Wendy was scrambling, who did she go to? David and Rick. That pattern doesn’t stop there. David was also able to figure where Wardog’s head was at, and with the help of Rick, he even knew where Chris wanted to vote.

The main point of all this rambling is that everyone turned to David when deciding who they were going to vote for. When you know firsthand what each tribe member is thinking, you hold the power. That’s what David was able to achieve with the Keith vote, which is truly remarkable.

What’s even more commendable is that his name has never even been brought up so far. Despite being a returning player, no one has even said in a confessional, “maybe we should target David.” Thanks to his personal relationships and laid back gameplay, David has flown under the radar, while still having a measure of control over Tribal Council.

His influence on the tribe is so strong that he was able to gather the numbers for a Wentworth blindside… and then call it off. The David that we watched grow into a strategic powerhouse in Millennials vs. Gen X is back!
