Earlier this week, Jeff Probst joined in the throng of complaints levied at Survivor: Island of the Idols promos. Now he brings good news.
Just ahead of the second episode of Survivor: Island of the Idols, Jeff Probst re-emerged from his Twitter hidey-hole to agree with the online contingent of fans complaining about how spoilery the promos have been this season. With the premiere showing which tribe went to Tribal Council before the Immunity Challenge aired, as well as who went to the Island of the Idols this week, it’s been too much info airing in commercials!
Though usually, it takes a lot longer for marketing and promotions to hold off on their plans to switch streams, especially during a season’s ongoing advertising campaign, sometimes it takes a very public callout to move the needle the other direction much quicker. As Jeff Probst tweeted out earlier today, “The promo issue has been resolved!”
He credits his “alliance” accomplishing its goal as well as a 20-year partnership with CBS with managing to fix the promo issue so quickly, although it doesn’t explain exactly how the issue has been “resolved.” Does this mean that Jeff will have the final say as to whether a promo spoils too much to go forward? Will CBS just agree not to reveal any Island of the Idols content in future commercials?
Well, it certainly wasn’t my most gracious moment :) but our alliance accomplished its goal. Thanks to the passion of our fans and a great 20-year partnership with CBS the promo issue has been resolved! Sweet! Moving forward with the rest of a killer season of #Survivor!

Even to get CBS to concede anything relating its marketing department is quite remarkable considering the planning that goes into selling ad space and what time is reserved for promoting a network’s shows within a commercial time block. It also goes to show just how much Jeff Probst is willing to put his own neck on the line for (in his eyes) the betterment of the show.
We’ll keep a lookout for this week’s Survivor: island of the Idols commercial to see if anything spoiler-related is kept out.
