Imagine if Richard Hatch hosted Survivor! In one of his latest videos, Hatch discusses his desire to replace Jeff Probst as Survivor’s showrunner.

After being active on Twitter about his disappointment over his Survivor: Winners at War snub, Richard Hatch took his frustration and insight to YouTube. Beyond his impactful first video that revealed he was only two days away from leaving for season 40, Hatch has uploaded several other opinionated clips.

You can really sense Richard’s annoyance with the way production and Jeff Probst have handled Survivor of late. In one of his latest videos, he even offered the idea of taking over the host’s job himself if Jeff were to step down. I can’t see that happening after his season 40 snub, but Hatch is even willing to host another version of the show in a different country.

It’s hard to tell if the original Sole Survivor is saying this out of frustration, an eagerness to prove superior to Probst, or if he genuinely wants to be a host. Regardless of the combination of motives, it is fascinating to picture Hatch as a Survivor showrunner. He certainly has the resume for it as well as a dynamic personality that would bring plenty of viewers.

His eloquent and bold manner of speech would bring an interesting element to the show. Hatch understands the game of Survivor like no other. However, I find it hard to determine if his overconfident attitude would work well in the role of a host as opposed to a castaway.

Despite his beef with production, Richard stressed the fact that he still watches and loves the game of Survivor. He believes that the show would have no problem continuing without Jeff Probst. This could be true if the replacement is a good fit, but it can be easy to overlook everything Jeff has done for the series. He’s evolved from a scripted host to an effective showrunner that is nestled in with the show’s identity. It won’t be easy for someone who has never hosted Survivor to simply slip into Jeff’s advanced role. We’ll have to wait and see if Hatch will ever get his wish, but something tells me this won’t happen.
