Survivor 50 is fast approaching its endgame phase, as there are only a couple of weeks left for the season to air. While it has been an exciting and unpredictable season for the most part, it is nonetheless devastating each time a beloved fan favorite is eliminated.

Episode 9 was no exception, as the Survivor 50 jury just gained another player to join its ranks, and it was, unfortunately, none other than Christian Hubicki. An alumnus of Survivor: David vs Goliath, one of Survivor’s most entertaining and beloved seasons, Hubicki was a highly expected returning player for fans.

However, due to some miscalculations on Hubicki’s part and yet another controversial celebrity twist, Hubicki’s latest Survivor journey was ultimately cut short when he was voted out in 11th place during the season’s ninth episode.

During his exit press interviews, Hubicki details where he went wrong, reveals his ideal Final Two partner, shares his thoughts on the Jimmy Fallon twist, and explains where he stands with Mike White today.

For starters, while speaking to Mike Bloom for Parade, Hubicki was asked where everything went wrong for him, starting off with the Jimmy Fallon twist. This twist forced Hubicki to write his own name down at Tribal Council and publicly reveal it to the tribe beforehand after losing a challenge puzzle, which ended up being Hubicki's final nail in his game coffin.

After joking with Bloom about not having received any reparations from the Fallon estate yet, Hubicki said he’s open to “repairing” his short-lived friendship with the late-night host.

"We will see. I mean, that remains to be seen. Look, Jimmy, my phone is open to you, whenever you want to get in touch. I can bring a mediator if that will help. Whatever it takes to make sure that we repair our very short friendship."

Hubicki then revealed that besides the twist, his biggest Survivor 50 mistake was forgetting the close bond between Cirie Fields and Oscar “Ozzy” Lusth, as he went to Fields about potentially getting rid of Lusth, who was playing “in the middle.” Fields, who hilariously remarked that Lusth is one of her husbands this season alongside Rizo Velovic, immediately intervened and got the vote going against Hubicki.

"I kind of woke up with this terrible epiphany that Ozzy was in the middle. I mean, it’s true. Ozzy was in the middle. But the tactics where I went about it [were not good]. And frankly, targeting Ozzy was probably not even the right call there, period. Why did I target Ozzy? He’s the one I sensed was in the middle. But clearly, there was more going on around him."

Hubicki added that he had asked Fields about a Final Three deal as he knew they could help each other navigate the season, but ultimately understood why Fields pivoted away from him after targeting her bff, husband, and long-time ally, Lusth.

In addition, Hubicki was asked what his ideal Final Two partner would have been, to which he responded that it would have been Rick Devens. Hubicki's response was highly unsurprising, seeing that Hubicki and Devens were one and the same throughout the majority of the season, and while Hubicki recognised that Devens would have been a tough competitor to beat in front of the jury, he would’ve liked for them to have sat together at the end.

"But truly, I would have taken him to the end because I trust him. The shenanigans that we did together require complete trust. And every time I would do these things, we would do these things for each other, it would build that trust deeper. And so it just made sense to go to the end with him. Not that I would expect it would be easy to beat him, far from it. But I think that that would be the right call to go with him to the end. I was totally willing to rock and roll with Captain Kirk."

Also, Bloom asked Hubicki how his relationship with fellow DvsG competitor Mike White was, after fans saw Hubicki being instrumental in White’s elimination earlier and after White revealed in several interviews that they hadn’t spoken since being on Fiji together.

Hubicki shocked Bloom by revealing he had actually asked a producer whether he could vote out White for who White is, both inside and outside the show, but the producer replied he couldn’t ask that question. Hubicki then acknowledged that he knew White would be upset about his elimination, and that while it was a hard thing to do, this move was right for his game.

As to where he stands with White, Hubicki replied, “I reached out to [White] as soon as I got back. I sent him a long message saying why I did what I did… Hopefully, at some point, he absorbs that, and I hope someday he understands. There certainly was no malice behind it.”

Survivor 50 continues on Wednesday, April 24!
