Another Survivor 50 episode, another moment for the history books.
In Survivor 50 episode 9, we just witnessed another major first for the franchise in an absolutely heartbreaking twist for Christian Hubicki fans. For the first time in Survivor history, a player was forced to cast a vote for themselves at Tribal Council.
After winning the immunity challenge, Joe Hunter was asked to select a player to head out on a Journey. Unable to make a decision, Joe had several players play rock, paper, scissors and the winner would go on the Journey.
Christian bested the rest and went on the Journey, which was courtesy of Survivor superfan Jimmy Fallon. On the Journey, Christian had the opportunity to win an extra vote at Tribal Council if he completed a puzzle on a floating raft in the allotted timeframe. If he were unable to complete the challenge in time, the puzzle would be pulled into the ocean, and Christian would have to read a letter to the tribe back at camp.
Christian didn't finish the puzzle in time, so he had to read the letter, which revealed that he must cast a vote for himself at Tribal Council. It's the first time it's ever happened in the show's history. Christian is going to be a trivia answer for the rest of his life.
We've seen so many records get broken this season. This is the biggest season, in terms of players, the biggest Tribal Councils, and the biggest twists at Tribal Council (three players going home in one night), but this one is especially heartbreaking because everyone knows that they have to vote for themselves.
This is a developing story. We'll update as we learn what happens.
