Whether you’re a longtime fan of Survivor or you just tuned in for the very first time during Survivor 50, we can all agree that the hardest part of one season ending is waiting for another one to begin. But I have a solution for you…just rewatch the best previous season to keep the hype going. And after Survivor 50, there’s one season in particular that’s perfect to keep the ball rolling.
For those of you who clicked onto this article thinking I was going to say Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains, I’m so sorry to disappoint you. Though it is an epic season and the very first anniversary season for the series, I don’t think it’s exactly the one that fits best after season 50 in the rewatch Survivor playlist.
The best season to rewatch—or watch for the first time depending on how deep your personal history with Survivor goes—is Survivor: Micronesia, the very first fans vs. favorites themed season.
Why is Survivor: Micronesia the best follow-up season to Survivor 50?
Survivor 50 gave us a similar dynamic as the original fans vs. favorites format. While it was all returning players this time around, watching the new era and pre-Winners at War players navigate the game together definitely gave off some Micronesia vibes, with players alternating between the roles of leader and learner.
Plus, Micronesia includes some of the classic Survivor elements fans missed in season 50—a 39 day game, actual fake idols (not just wrapping), dangerous and awkward showmances, poor camp setups, and one of the best blindsides in Survivor history.
And the biggest perk of all, Micronesia has Cirie Fields’ legendary origin story. While it wasn’t her first season, it was the season where she cemented herself in the Survivor hall of fame, coming up with the strategy behind the best blindside ever. While most people think of Parvati Shallow when the “Black Widow Brigade” is mentioned—rightfully so as she played the game with that alliance well enough to win—Cirie was a huge percentage of the brains behind the Black Widow Brigade slowly eliminating the men. In fact, it was Cirie who initiated the blindsides of James Clement and Ozzy Lusth because she was nervous their relationships with Parvati and Amanda Kimmel, respectively, would prevent her from getting to the end.
Overall, Survivor: Micronesia is one of the best seasons of Survivor and it’s the perfect season to dive into if you’re missing the show after the end of Survivor 50.
