Survivor legend Parvati Shallow named one of Vulture’s “Masterminds of Reality TV”

In Vulture’s “Masterminds of Reality TV” Class of 2026, Parvati Shallow is highlighted as the “standard-bearer” of Survivor. And rightfully so!

Whenever anyone—Jeff Probst included—is asked who would be on the Mount Rushmore of Survivor, there’s one name that undoubtedly always makes it: the absolute legend that is Parvati Shallow. So it’s no surprise that she was named amongst Vulture’s Class of 2025 “Masterminds of Reality TV.”

The feature highlights her as the innovator of the “villain” archetype that people actually root for thanks to “her signature game style of deception with a smile.” She paved the way for the new era female strategists who unapologetically play the game—and dominate while doing so. And her influence doesn’t stop at Survivor. She’s become an icon across multiple reality show universes, proving that playing a strategically cunning game (no matter the franchise) doesn’t have to be frowned upon by other players or fans.

“Male Survivors still shake in their boots at the prospect of all-female alliances solely because of how formidable Shallow’s ‘Black Widow Brigade’ performed.” - Vulture’s “Masterminds of Reality TV.”

Parvati, best known for winning Survivor: Micronesia, has become a steadfast staple in the reality competition world over the last few years. After appearing on four different seasons of American Survivor—winning her second and placing as the runner up in her third—she went on to compete on Traitors as well as Deal or No Deal Island, where she kept a nine-week immunity streak for most of the game.

She most recently appeared on Australian Survivor where she reunited with her former Black Widow Brigade ally Cirie Fields before taking home the win. Traitors season 1 casting director Jazzy Collins goes on to say that Parvati understands gameplay so intricately, “she can literally go on any competition show and just destroy.”

The article also highlights two Survivor “Rob” legends: Boston Rob Mariano for his work alongside Bob the Drag Queen on Peacock’s official Traitors podcast and Rob Cesternino for “Rob Has a Podcast.” Both emphasized for their ability to bring together reality competition fans to turn shows into pop culture moments, with RHAP being called the epicenter of the Survivor fandom.

If we had a say, we’d also give Survivor as a whole a shoutout for being our gold standard of reality competition shows. This season of Survivor 50 has been a whirlwind, which is so exciting for fans after 25 years. While we would have loved to see Parvati this season, she did make it very clear she didn’t have plans to return while alluding to Cirie joining the cast. And Cirie has definitely been playing a game that her fellow Black Widow can be proud of.
