The penultimate episode of Survivor 50 airs this week, but we’re already looking ahead to next week’s live finale. This will be the first truly live finale since Survivor: Edge of Extinction as the Island of the Idols finale was pre-taped and the Winners at War finale was pushed to video chats due to the COVID pandemic.
And the fact that it’s been so long since our last live finale means the Survivor team are going all out in celebration of such a big moment—only the second time in Survivor history that $2 million is being awarded. And based on our current Final 7 players, we know the race for the title is going to be a tight one with the jury likely being quite divided when placing their final votes.
"...anything can happen live in real time." - Jeff Probst to TV Insider
This week, TV Insider sat down with Jeff Probst to discuss what we can expect from the finale including one final fan vote that will be revealed live. And Jeff is excited for the return of the live finale because, “There’s nothing like being in that room with a thousand people, all watching in real time, cheering for their favorite players.”
He went on to reveal that everyone’s favorite elements of a live finale will be returning, “the live audience, the real-time reactions, the immediacy of revealing the winner onstage, and that feeling that anything can happen.” And just like previous live finales, as the episode airs, Jeff will be checking in with our players in real-time to get their reaction to specific moments as well as immediate exit interviews with the players who don’t make the Final Three.

And for those of us hoping he rides a jet ski into the New York harbor again, I’m sorry to say that we’ll be seeing less gimmicks this year as there’s so much to pack into the live elements of the finale that Jeff and production wanted to keep that time for the moments that matter: “the players and the story of the season!”
It’s also important for fans to not only tune into the finale live, but also watch episode 12 live this week as they’re introducing one final vote for fans to cast that will directly affect the live finale. Jeff calls the last vote, “very fun,” which means we might have the power to choose a fan favorite player of the season like we used to. Do we think Sia will be sponsoring it?
Don’t miss your chance to vote this week as the penultimate episode of Survivor 50 airs on Wednesday, May 13 before the finale hits our screens on Wednesday, May 20 at 8 p.m. ET.
