It's not Survivor without Jeff Probst and his iconic catchphrases! Multiple times every episode, Probst uses a few phrases that have actually transcended the game and act as a transition between scenes, basically, of the reality competition series.

On the new episode of On Fire with Jeff Probst after Survivor 47 episode 4, Probst was asked which of these catchphrases he would drop if he had to choose one phrase never to utter again on Survivor. The fan, known as Marcus, shared a list of nine common catchphrases from Probst to choose from.

Here's the list that Probst had to choose from:

  • "You gotta dig deep!"
  • "That's how ya do it on Survivor!"
  • "The Tribe has spoken."
  • "Otherwise known as the losers."
  • "Once again, immunity is back up for grabs."
  • "I'll go tally the votes."
  • "All right..."
  • "Give you a minute to strategize and we'll get it on."
  • "Wanna know what you're playing for?"

After performing them on the new episode of the podcast, there's one to me that was the obvious answer, and it's actually the one Probst picked.

"Otherwise known as the losers" is the catchphrase Probst would never say again

Is That Blood in Your Hair
“Is That Blood in Your Hair” – A castaway risks getting caught red-handed while on the hunt for an advantage in the game. During the immunity challenge, tribes must dig deep to piece together a win to earn a reward and safety at the next tribal council. Then, one castaway from each tribe will take a journey where they must make a big decision that could impact the game, on SURVIVOR, Wednesday, Oct. 9 (8:00-9:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and /

Probst, rightly, chose "Otherwise known as the losers" as the catchphrase he'd never utter again on Survivor, and it makes so much sense.

First of all, it's not really a catchphrase that's necessary for the game. Obviously, there are other ways to speak to the losing tribes and players without referring to them as "the losers." It's not even something Probst says every episode or after every challenge, although he does use it a fair amount.

Many of the other catchphrases are sewn into the fabric that is Survivor. Probst would never give up phrases, "The tribe has spoken," "Once again, immunity is back up for grabs," "I'll go tally the votes," or "Wanna know what you're playing for?" Those phrases are so crucial to the actual gameplay and presentation of Survivor, you know? It wouldn't be Survivor without Probst using those phrases at least once an episode.

"All right..." is just how Probst talks. He says it all the time when they're transitioning to something on an episode, discussing an important topic, or leading the conversation and asking the players how they are feeling. That's not going anywhere.

The other two phrases could be left out, I will say. "That's how you do it on Survivor!" and "You gotta dig deep!" are basically just Probst cheerleading during the challenges, which I could honestly do without. Some of the narration is a little much at times. Please don't hate me for saying so, Jeff!

But, overall, if it that's what the players need and that's what the show needs, I'm cool with it! I would make very few changes to the actual presentation of Survivor. More of my qualms are with some of the twists, turns, and actual rules of the game.

Anyway, it's always fun to poke fun at Probst and his catchphrases. This was a great question from Survivor fan Marcus. And, I really enjoy this segment of the podcast. Probst, Jay Wolff, and Charlie Davis have delivered some very insightful answers.
