Survivor 50 episode 7 was monumental as we saw the last of our three winners who came into this season finally leave the game when Dee Valladares became the first member of the Survivor 50 jury. And while it was by no means a blindside and the majority of the tribe voted for her, there was a core alliance that specifically wanted her out and—as we expected—is now taking all the credit for it.
In a new sneak peek of episode 8, “Double the Fun, Double the Demise,” Jonathan Young returns from Tribal Council floating on cloud 9. He immediately says they “flushed Aubry’s [Bracco] idol” and “got Dee out.” Two moves that, at the end of the game, would not appear on his resume if asked by a jury. Watch the full clip below.
Anyone who watched last week’s episode knows that Aubry only played her idol because Christian Hubicki and Rick Devens put a target on her back after she didn’t play it at the prior Tribal Council. Since it would boomerang back to Christian, they either want it flushed or they want to vote her out so they can have its power. So, Jonathan has no claim to that move.
And as far as Dee’s elimination goes, while yes, Coach Wade and Jonathan were gunning for Dee since basically day 1, the rest of the tribe really wasn’t on board until Emily Flippen approached Rizo Velovic asking about his idol that Dee told her about. That set off a red alert with Rizo who brought in his closest ally, Cirie Fields, to discuss the need to eliminate Dee as she can’t be trusted. That conversation was the one that initiated everyone else getting involved with the vote. Not any of Coach’s haikus or Jonathan’s tantrums that Dee’s lying and Survivor is about playing honorably.

The clip then goes on to focus on Tiffany Ervin, who was the split vote at Tribal Council in case Dee’s shot in the dark marked her as safe. She’s upset that her closest ally went home, but what’s more upsetting is that four unknown people wrote her name down. We even see Chrissy Hofbeck approaching her at the fire telling her—seemingly unprompted—that she doesn’t know who wrote her name down, which is a complete lie.
Chrisy is a major player in the alliance that specifically wanted to split the votes, openly stating she wanted to vote for Dee over Tiffany. Coach then spent most of episode 7 ensuring that the four people who voted for Tiffany were four that wouldn’t flip flop. So in the end, Coach, Joe Hunter, Ozzy Lusth, and Stephenie LaGross Kendrick wrote Tiffany’s name down.
And while the name of the upcoming episode might suggest another double elimination, I’m thinking it actually references someone digging their own grave…maybe even two someones. Because as we know in Survivor, pride goeth before the fall. And Jonathan and Coach left Tribal Council awfully proudly. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were both, unknowingly, plotting out their own eliminations.
Survivor 50 episode 8 airs on Wednesday, April 15, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+!
