Should the next returning player season of Survivor be all zero-vote finalists?

In a social game likeSurvivor, it is quite telling when a player is able to make it to the end with zero votes against them. It’s a sign that they did not set off anyone’s threat alarm throughout an entire season—whether39 or 26 days.

And while in some cases this could mean that the players in question did not play a game worthy of being perceived as a threat because they did not play at all, there are also times when a player is so well liked that no one even considers voting for them despite the fact that they’re essentially running the game.

So it might be very interesting to unite all of these players and have them go head-to-head with the other castaways who managed to strategically fly under the radar and make it to Final Tribal Council in their own season. And before you ask, “are there even enough players who accomplished this to create an entire season?” I will happily point out that over the last 50 seasons, there have been 135Final Tribal Councilspots (a combination of Final Two and Final Three seasons) with 75 unique players filling those seats across all seasons.

So of the 135 opportunities for players to make it to the end without any votes against them, 17% of these castaways actually made it happen.

That leaves us with 23 players who are eligible to come back and play in a zero-vote finalist returning season:

• Michael Skupin (Survivor: Philippines)
• John Cochran (Survivor: Caramoan)
• Natalie Anderson (Survivor: San Juan del Sur)
• Nick Wilson (Survivor: David vs. Goliath)
• Gavin Whitson (Survivor: Edge of Extinction)

Of course, 23 is an odd number for starting off a new season, so it’s fair to look over the list and remove players based on whether or not we think they’d come back. I believe Tina, Ethan, Sandra, and Amanda have all expressed that they are done with theirSurvivorcareers, while Coach might be ready to retire as well afterSurvivor 50. That would take us down to 18 players, which works well to start a season and is often where we’ve found ourselves at the beginning of each new era season.

18 players divided between three tribes. A very classicSurvivortribe equation. And since this season would be all about second chances (not only to win—or win again—but to prove themself as the incredible social player they are by getting to the end once again without any votes against them) we wouldn’t want to include any twists that allow players back into the game, like Redemption Island orEdge of Extinction. But to emphasize the importance of social connections, it could be very interesting to bring back Exile Island.

To pit incredible social players against each other and then isolate them based on other players’ choosing could definitely make for a dramatic and dynamic season of gameplay.
