Survivor 49 premiere date officially set at CBS (and it's slightly later than expected)

CBS has confirmed the Survivor 49 premiere date, and the fall season is coming slightly later than we expected!
“Only One of Yous Can Win” – The $1 million dollars is closer than ever as the remaining castaways enter the final stretch of the game. A major come-from-behind win earns one person a trip to the sanctuary and a spot in the final four. Then, a tumultuous fire-making showdown determines the final three. All eyes might be on Survivor 50, but CBS has put Survivor 49 in the spotlight by finally confirming the premiere date for the upcoming season!

Survivor 49 will kick off on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 8/7c on CBS. The announcement was announced via a fun social media post on July 10 via a photo with the premiere date written in the sands of the beaches of Fiji.

“Mark your calendars! Another season of Survivor is coming our way soon!” read the Instagram post sharing the official premiere date, which you can check out below.

While we anticipated that the new season would premiere in September, the official Survivor 49 premiere date is slightly later than expected. Season 47 kicked off Wednesday, Sept. 18, and was one of the first fall shows to return on CBS. We assumed that since Survivor 48 premiered closer to mid-September, we expected that Survivor 49 would arrive on Sept. 17. Instead, it seems CBS is going to hold the show for the final Wednesday of the month.

We’re definitely not complaining, as it’s not like the season is coming weeks later than we expected. It does make us wonder what the fall schedule will look like, considering the season will be kicking off a week later than Survivor 47. Perhaps the season is going to be only 13 episodes like Survivor 45, rather than 14 episodes like Survivor 47. Or perhaps CBS will throw in a special 2-night event one week in the season. Regardless, we’ll certainly be tuning in!

With the premiere date set, the next major milestone we’ll be looking out for is the reveal of the official Survivor 49 cast. Given the season won’t arrive until Sept. 24, it’s likely we’ll be waiting until September for the official cast announcement. We’ve gotten glimpses of the cast via the first promo CBS aired during the Survivor 48 finale, and we also know that two of the players from the upcoming season impressed CBS enough to secure a place in the Survivor 50 cast.

The identities of these two players remain unconfirmed, but it seems likely that CBS felt confident that these two players will be well-liked by viewers. It also seems like CBS will give these players a positive edit to help ensure they get decent screen time in the season ahead of their return in Survivor 50. What will be interesting is to see if these two players are heroes or villains in the season, or maybe a bit of both!

We’ll find out when their journey begins with the Survivor 49 premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 8/7c, followed by the season premiere of The Amazing Race.
