It seems Survivor fans are in for yet another double elimination ahead of the Survivor 50 finale.
Ahead of the season finale, host Jeff Probst sat down with TV Insider to discuss the season and look ahead to the final two episodes. During the conversation, Probst began to look ahead to the finale and seemingly confirmed that the finale will once again feature a final five, which means that the penultimate episode of the season will bring yet another double elimination.
“What is most striking to me about our final five is that there is no single blueprint for how they got there. Every one of them brought a unique strategic approach to their game. They trusted their instincts and stayed committed to their specific point of view on how to play. And it earned each of them a shot to win this game,” Probst revealed. “There also isn’t one clear frontrunner. It’s truly wide open. For real. Going into the finale, any one of the five could win, and a lot will come down to who is sitting next to whom in the final three.”
It’s clear based on Probst’s remarks that the penultimate episode of the season, airing May 13, will bring about yet another double elimination, which makes this the fifth episode thus far this season where more than one player has been eliminated in a single episode. With the finale so close, it’s going to be brutal to see two more players’ games coming to an end, and there is honestly no telling what twist CBS has cooked up that will pave the way for the final five to be solidified heading into the finale.
So far, every single episode that has seen more than one player go home at tribal council has brought the drama leading to some of the season’s most exciting tribal councils and most shocking eliminations. The first double tribal council saw Angelina and Charlie voted out; the blood moon twist ended Genevieve's, Colby's, and Dee’s games; then came the double duo twist, which resulted in Coach's and Chrissy’s eliminations from the game; and finally, we saw yet another double tribal council as we reached the top nine, leading to the eliminations of Emily and Ozzy.
With just seven players left in the game and the finale so close, with blood in the water there is no telling who might be at risk of getting their torches snuffed next. As the last episode reminded us, no one is ever truly safe in the game, and there is no telling when an ally might stab you in the back to further their own game. Now that the prize money has been doubled, each of the seven remaining players wants nothing more than to walk away with the $2 million prize.
What will be interesting is to see how this latest double elimination might come into play in the penultimate episode. So far this season, CBS has tried to make each multi-player elimination unique, so there is no telling what the producers have cooked up to bring the top seven to the final five. Regardless of how the double elimination comes to fruition, it’s going to be brutal to see two more players’ games end so close to the end.
Aubry, Cirie, Joe, Jonathan, Rick, Rizo, and Tiffany all have a path to the final five, but they'll need to play their cards right and make the best moves possible if they hope to punch their tickets to the finale. Rizo seems to be sitting in the best position to make it to the final five, given he has an idol still in play. So long as he learns from Ozzy's mistakes and makes sure to play the idol rather than going to him with an idol in his pocket, Rizo should make it into the final 5 for the second consecutive season, which is a major feat.
As for the rest of the group, there is no telling who might make it into the final five, and we imagine the immunity challenge will play a major role in shifting the focus of the tribe. Multiple players are ready to take a shot at a big target, so it'll be fun to see who ends up in jeopardy and who will join the jury next.
