Over the past 26 years, we’ve seen so many culture defining moments grace our screens. And while usSurvivorfans will always tell you that this show is a global phenomenon that deserves its dues, not everyone always agrees or understands that.
So it’s always a joy to see it get therecognitionit deserves!
And recently,L’Officielhighlighted 10 TV shows and 10 movies they consider to be the most groundbreaking of the 21st century, so far and at the very top of their list was the show that kicked off 2000s reality television,Survivor. Alongside some other incredible era-defining shows likeThe Office,Breaking Bad, andTed Lasso,Survivorwas the only reality show to make the list.
Survivormakes top 10 list of most groundbreaking TV shows of the 21st century.
Having just celebrated its 50th season—withSurvivor 51already in countdown mode—Survivoris one of only nine American primetime series to have more than 50 seasons under its belt. And there’s definitely a reason for that.
It’s not becauseJeff Probsthas single-handedly kept the show alive all these year or because it’s a perfect show. It’s because it’s a reflection of the people sitting at home watching. Literally so much so that every single episode, Jeff turns to the camera and tells the people watching at home that he wants us to come out to Fiji, if we have what it takes.
And for those of us still waiting for our call (it’s me, hi!), we, in the meantime, get to watch real people like Cirie Fields, the woman who got off the couch one day to playSurvivor. OrBoston Rob Marianoand Amber Brkich who both went on the show with the hopes of winning never expecting that 22 years later they’d be married with four kids.
Survivorhas truly changed lives both on-screen and off. You’re always seeingSurvivorthemed parties not just because it’s fun, but because it’s a theme people want to include their friends in. Even I recently got my best friend hooked onSurvivorand it’s still a show that my family watches together despite the fact that we haven’t lived in the same state for nearly a decade.
So personally, I’d saySurvivoris even bigger than groundbreaking. For everything it’s given to people and pop culture,Survivorhas been a show of seismic proportions over the last 26 years and it’snot slowing downanytime soon.
