Survivor raises record amount for Stand Up To Cancer with season 50 live finale giveaway

Over the last 16 years, Survivor has put up items for auction with proceeds going to Stand Up To Cancer and this year they’ve surpassed a record-breaking number for the long-running reality competition show.

The Super Fans know that at the end of every season of Survivor, items from that season go up for auction with the proceeds benefitting the charity Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C, informally). But Survivor’s involvement with the organization branches far beyond only that fan-inspired initiative.

Since 2010, Survivor and SU2C have upheld a long-standing collaboration inclusive of huge fundraising efforts like the auctions, co-branded merchandise, fundraising team challenges, and a 5K mud run—to name a few. On top of that, previous Survivor winners have acted as SU2C ambassadors and used their own stories to help raise money for the organization.

Ethan Zohn is a Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor as well as the Sole Survivor of Survivor: Africa. He’s lent his voice to the awareness campaigns as well as Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X winner Adam Klein who told his story of his mom—who passed away from lung cancer—during his season. He even partnered with SU2C and CBS during his season’s live finale to boost donations; that campaign alone raised more than $360,000.

And now, in honor of celebrating Survivor’s legacy with season 50, fans had the chance to donate to Stand Up To Cancer in exchange for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the live Survivor 50 finale. And it’s now been revealed that the campaign with Charitybuzz has raised $160,000 in donations. But that’s not the end!

Survivor has raised over $2 million for Stand Up To Cancer over the last 16 years

Toyota will also be donating an extra $50,000 to SU2C during Survivor 50’s live season finale in honor of the milestone moment and the show’s focus on benevolent efforts over the years. Stand up To Cancer co-founder, Katie Couric, says that with this donation, Survivor has now raised over $2 million for life-saving research in the last 16 years. She goes on to say that, “With the help of the show and its deeply devoted fans, many more people will be ‘survivors’ of cancer.”

Because this season’s theme of In the Hands of the Fans is a direct reflection of the impact the show’s fans have had over the years. Not just on ratings and players, but on incredible feats like this. So tonight, when one of our Final Five is crowned Sole Survivor and takes home $2 million, remember that, as a fan, you’ve contributed that same amount to go towards a life-changing organization.
