We polled the Surviving Tribal community over onFacebookto see whatSurvivorrules they would update if they could change theSurvivorrule book. And while most of the answers were expected—are there any fans who prefer 26-day games?—there are some pitches we would love to see make an appearance as we venture into the new “open era.”

Back to 39-day games
It feels like this has been the hot topic of the series ever since the format changed forSurvivor 41. And while fans understood the reasoning behind the change initially (keeping the players safe during the COVID-19 pandemic), they’re wondering why the days of play haven’t increased back to 39 now that the show isn’t required to take as many precautions ahead of filming. It’s almost 100% unlikely that we will ever see a39-day gameagain since production has created such a filming rhythm around the 26-day game, but fans continue to dream (and beg) for the change.
No strategizing at Tribal Council
While this definitely happened in the pre-Winners at Wareras, we have been seeing a lot of scrambling at Tribal Council, especially most recently inSurvivor 50. But the fans have voted and they say that once you get to Tribal Council, players shouldn’t be able to strategize to each other in whispers and side-conversations. If something needs to change, players can only do so in the standard Tribal Council chat format: aloud as an answer to hostJeff Probst’salways poignant questions.

Challenge sit-outs are determined by the losing tribe
This one is very interesting! As we know, in the modern era ofSurvivorwe’ve seen so many early game tribes get completely destroyed because they don’t get their fire until they win a challenge and if they don’t win a challenge they have to vote someone out. So while they come into each immunity challenge tired and hungry andallhaving to compete, the other tribes definitely have more than one advantage over them. So let’s make things a little more of an even playing field by letting the smaller tribe choose who sits out of the larger tribes. While I don’t think this makes sense all the time, it would definitely be a great advantage to add into the game!
Only one tribe swap per season
The new era’s format of three starting tribes of six people each has definitely allowed for some chaos to happen when multiple tribe swaps come into play before we even hit the merge. So the fans suggest that there cannot be more than one tribe swap per season. The tribe swap usually brings in a “luck of the draw”-element to the game that is hit-or-miss most seasons. InSurvivor 50we saw fan favorite players like Genevieve Mushaluk andKamilla Karthigesugo home simply because they were on the wrong side of the numbers after a random pick. Fans don’t want to see that anymore.

No bag snooping!
One of the biggest pet peeves of fans is players who go through other players’ bags in order to see if they have an idol or an advantage. Almost all of us agree that bags should be off-limits and the one personal item that a castaway can trust is theirs and theirs alone. It feels like a violation of privacy and in an era where the emotional status of players is way more heavily involved in gameplay, looking through someone’s bag is not a way to play with “honor & integrity.”
Return to Final Two
We’ve consistently seen three players at Final Tribal Council since season 29 (and before that, every season since 19 with onlySurvivor: Cagayanthe outlier. Fans want to see the game return to only having two players plead their case at Final Tribal Council, which also means no Final Four fire-making challenge. The amount of third place players who have to fight for their life to the jury only to get no votes (and we usually know which player that will be…) feels cruel and like a misuse of time during a finale episode. The fans say, take us back to a Final Two!
