There's a new episode of Survivor 48 this week, and it looks like two players -- not one -- will be voted out of this season of CBS's biggest reality TV series.
"Survivor Smack Talk," Survivor 48 episode 7, airs at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 9, and the synopsis for the new episode is starting to set off some alarm bells for the historic double Tribal Council.
Here's what the synopsis says about the new episode, via CBS:
"It’s double trouble when an unforeseen twist puts pressure on the castaways during the immunity challenge. Then, there’s nowhere to hide when a pivotal tribal council takes shape and decides who will make the jury, on SURVIVOR..."
Let's look at all the clues that two players are going home. The first evidence I'd like to present is obvious, "double trouble." Why not say "trouble" if it's just one player going home?
Next, "an unforeseen twist" adding pressure to the challenge? If that doesn't mean two winners and the rest losers, I don't know what it means.
Finally, "there's nowhere to hide" at Tribal Council. I have to assume that means everyone (except for the immunity winners) is in jeopardy of going home.
In addition to this evidence from the synopsis, the show also has a history of this exact scenario playing out. Of course, Survivor fans know that we've seen the double Tribal Council in the past. We didn't see it in Survivor 47, but we did see it in Survivor 46 at this stage of the game. Immediately after the merge, Tim Spicer and Soda Thompson were voted out in two tribes of six players.
In that episode, the 12 players were split into two tribes of six players. In the groups, one player from each group won immunity. In this case, Kenzie Petty and Maria Shrime Gonzalez won immunity. The final twist was that, instead of voting as one tribe and getting rid of two players, they voted in the smaller groups of six players.
The other kicker was that Tim was not selected for the jury, but Soda was.
You can see Jeff Probst passing out buffs or rocks for the draw to split the tribes in one of the pictures from this episode, too.
Please, let me enter my final piece of evidence. On Instagram, Survivor just posted a clip of the first time this double Tribal Council twist happened in Survivor: Ghost Island (season 36).
It sure seems like that's what will happen in Survivor 48's new episode, "Survivor Smack Talk." I rest my case.
