More details about season 36, reportedly called Survivor Ghost Island, have been revealed and how CBS pulls off what they have in store.

While Survivor fans are patiently awaiting the late-September premiere of season 35 — Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers — there has already been plenty of information revealed about season 36. For one, we know that it’ll be called Ghost Island. We also know that it was filmed in Fiji.

It has also been previously reported that there will not be a “Ghost Tribe”, something that was floated once before in planning for a similarly titled season. Furthermore, there will be part of the twist that includes an island that is similar to Exile Island — though surely with some “spooky” variations.

However, Inside Survivor has more information on the Survivor Ghost Island twist and it might be the juiciest tidbit to date. According to an update on Aug. 18, season 36 will feature “advantages” that call back seasons past. There are plenty of those that stick out and the report indicates some that may be brought back into the forefront:

More from Surviving Tribal

"These advantages are said to be ones associated with past mistakes, such as Erik Reichenbach’s Immunity Necklace and James Clement’s two Hidden Immunity Idols."

Few fans of the show will forget mistakes like that, and there are plenty more to draw from. As Inside Survivor noted, however, it’s going to be how CBS plans to pull this off that is going to be interesting.

It’s always fun when the show finds a way to call back to moments in its long history. However, this will be an interesting wrinkle as it highlights mistakes that past players have made. With that in mind, though, you have to wonder how they plan to incorporate mistakes into the game.

Are they going to put players in situations to make the same mistakes? Will they simply call back to a moment like James’ by having two Hidden Immunity Idols packaged together? There isn’t any information on this just yet, but it’s going to be fascinating to see how it plays out.

Regardless, I’m on board with the idea of this twist, as long as the execution is there. Recently, we’ve seen a lot of returnee seasons to dip back into the show’s history. However, this seems like a much more fun way to go about doing something similar.
