It has been rumored for months, but Survivor Ghost Island was officially announced as the Survivor season 36 theme at tonight’s reunion special.

There is a sizable contingent of players who have been waiting for the Survivor season 35 finale for weeks now. The closer we got to the reunion, the quicker that part of the viewing audience got to a season where players aren’t inexplicably keeping Ben in the game way longer than they needed to, letting someone who finds an idol go searching for another when they’re the target, or having access to a record-breaking number of idols.

Thankfully, the end of the reunion gave us the spark that will light the fire, that will burn Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers down. Survivor Ghost Island has officially been announced to cap off the night’s proceedings, giving us a glimpse of some of the 20 players we can expect to see when the season kicks off on February 28, 2018.

From what we know of Survivor Ghost Island per reports, the game will feature the youngest cast in the show’s history by more than three years, with the second-youngest cast now a record held by Survivor ChinaFunnily enough, the season’s twist is expected to encompass the mistakes of players past for advantages, including such misplays as James Clements’s double unused idols, Lauren’s bumbled idol play and more.

Furthermore, we know the reported full tribe designations, per a report earlier this week. You can click that link if you wish, as it has a lot more information about how each tribe stacks up and balances out in age. Regardless, both tribes average a younger age than any season we’ve seen before, despite being the first season of the show where players haven’t been broken down by theme or designation for the first time since Survivor Samoa.

Survivor Ghost Island brings an entirely new opportunity to see an exciting, enthralling season; hopefully, the February 2018 two-hour premiere will kick things off right instead of giving us an invisible edit for one of its players.
