You know, I know, everyone knows the kind of player Sebastian Noel will be during his Survivor Ghost Island play. How will he break the mold?

No, he’s not The Rock, but you could definitely see precisely why Sebastian Noel was brought to Survivor Ghost Island; to play as the golden boy. He fits the part played originally by Ozzy Lusth and has been replicated numerous times, but with more traditional aspects of play being introduced to the modern big moves era, he could prove worthy of keeping around. That is, if his big mouth doesn’t get in the way.

I know it’s unfair to designate a new player as a replicant or a certain type before we get to see them play, but the comparisons are strong and not unknown to him. His CBS bio shows that he’s a fishing guide, one of three things he wishes for on the island is a Hawaiian sling, he calls himself a “waterman,” “hunting for food is where (he) feels the most at home,” his social media channels refer to him as a mermaid man; the guy looks like he’s a strong, capable fish in the water.

Whereas that would pose a huger threat than he would as someone to keep around in a modern, twist-heavy season, Survivor Ghost Island will be changing things up to bring back more traditional hunter and provider roles back to the show. In addition to a chores list (seriously?), tribes will be given half the rice they usually get, meaning you’ll need a strong, capable fisherman as long as you can; at least until it’s an individual game.

As previously mentioned, many “golden boy” types have graced the show, but you should look at more than the physicality when making the comparisons. Before writing up this Survivor Ghost Island cast assessment, I looked up Jay Starrett’s introduction video once more to compare and see how the two carried themselves as individuals.

Where Jay, Ozzy, Joe and others offer up a personality that draws people in by showing appreciation for others (one where they try to make others feel good), Sebastian Noel has a loud confidence to himself. I wouldn’t say cocky, as he isn’t 1000% sure he’s the second coming of your favorite winner, but he admits that Survivor is his element and he’s almost owed the opportunity.

As with his type, there are red flags and obstacles aplenty. For starters, his Xfinity interview is a goldmine of phrases and comments that almost act as foreshadowing. He’s willing to admit that he’s “going to say something stupid,” and notes a tendency to offend people with things slipping from his mouth. Another, bigger problem that’s more pertinent throughout the entirety of Survivor is that he sucks at puzzles. Despite having a strategy of dominating in Individual Immunities, seemingly more than half end in a puzzle.

It just seems like Sebastian is banking that because people tend to gravitate towards him in real life, that he’s “everybody’s favorite person,” that people will treat him fairly. I say that because the most egregious thing about him, from a Survivor standpoint, is that he’s going to “tell people how it is” and be upfront with his comments.

He’s a fan of the show, having watched the majority of the seasons (with the few missed due to circumstances out of his control). He should know that honesty only wins you a million dollars if you’re Tom Westman and you have little competition to speak of. You have to outwit, outplay and outlast, and few have done so by rustling feathers with the blunt truth.

Not many golden boys have been superfans of the game, so I would like to see how far he makes it in Survivor Ghost Island. However, without a filter and without a knack for puzzles, he could be sleeping with the fishes quickly after the merge. It will be interesting to see if he can dominate in a tribe challenge setting, though. I think he can pull that off … swimmingly.
