No, it won’t be the tough versus all the Davids to play the game! Survivor: David vs. Goliath should be the underdog versus cream of the crop season 37 theme.

Ironically, Survivor Millennials vs. Gen X’s David Wright represents the prototypical “David” of the David vs. Goliath type of story. He started out as a complete paranoid weakling, overcoming his fears, slowly becoming confident in his abilities and working to take out the Goliath of his season; Zeke Smith. Though he did not win, he showed tremendous personal growth and exciting gameplay.

CBS will reportedly try to replicate that kind of storytelling magic for an entire season this Fall 2018 season, as insider Martin Holmes continues his current string of insider reports by revealing a previously rumored Survivor: David vs. Goliath will, in fact, be the season 37 theme for the show.

The original rumor came from Reddit user anthonyd46 on April 25, positing that Survivor David vs. Goliath will feature 20 players consisting of two starting tribes separated by those who have excelled in their field versus those who are underappreciated or underestimated.

Though it does not necessarily mean that all the Goliaths will be burly, strong men and women, based on the 14 of 20 players already revealed it would seem that the professional wrestler, MMA fighter and SWAT officer (aka one of the Florida Hot Cops) will certainly bring a physicality to their tribes.

As we know from both Survivor Ghost Island and Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers, this game is not just about physical strength in challenges. Perhaps in a tribal challenge setting that will have an impact, but women have been winning Individual Immunity for the most part in the past filming cycle.

Furthermore, some of the David types of people seem to be a bit more well-rounded. The public defender has to be able to provide empathy and talk up a storm, and the bartender looks to be in decent shape. It will be interesting to see how the edit reflects both sides of the game, as the underdog is predisposed to be sympathetic to the audience.
