Last week, Survivor 50 was rocked when a shocking—and unfavorable—twist sent Christian Hubicki to the jury. In a split vote between Christian and Rick Devens, only two players were on the outside, voting for Ozzy Lusth instead—Devens and Emily Flippen, Christian’s closest allies.
And now in two new sneak peeks for episode 10, “A Side Dish of Chaos,” we’re seeing how the two navigate the return to camp after writing down Ozzy’s name. And while Emily’s new era social game clearly goes into preservation mode, Devens' old-school ways of chaos are taking the wheel. Check it out below!
In the first clip (above), Emily tries to do some damage control after her attempt at blindsiding her ally, Ozzy, went south. She meets up with him after Tribal Council and lets him know that she did throw him under the bus in an attempt to save Christian, and she’s sorry. Emily goes on to say that she’s never felt so on the outs at camp, and she’s going to do everything she can to get back on track with her previous relationships.
But as the post-Tribal Council discussions continue, the second clip (below) shows the reaction from the same experience told through the actions of a completely different player. Ozzy calls out Devens, claiming he doesn’t have an idol because he didn’t play it, but Devens just brushes him off and says he’s doing his best impression of Rizo Velovic holding onto the idol in Survivor 49.
Now when Emily and Devens finally get a chance to connect in the hammock that’s been the meeting site of many social moves this season, that’s when their two gameplay styles finally get to collide. Devens knows he can’t get angry or he’ll make a bad play, so his best bet is to get chaotic, which will either lead to a good play or a bad play that he had fun putting together.
And Devens reminds Emily of her inner chaos agent—the one that’s been fueling her game for most of this season—by letting her know that they’re two Survivor fans who know how to go big or go home and, being on the bottom, they currently have nothing to lose. She seems agreeable to this idea, which leads to Devens ready to brainstorm all the insane possibilities of ways they can take back control in this game—or at least disrupt the control of others so they aren’t the only two going down with the ship.
And remember, back in Edge of Extinction, Devens was basically on the bottom for most of the game but managed to do enough stirring and make surprising enough moves that he went from being voted out 4th to placing 4th overall. I have no doubt that we’re about to see something crazy—crazy fun for those of us at home—go down at the hands of Emily and Devens.
