The Survivor 48 players are going to Mergatory in this week's episode!

CBS shared a new clip from Survivor 48 episode 6, "Doing the Damn Thing," and it features the Lagi tribe finding out that the players are entering the new phase of Survivor 48. It's time for these players to Earn the Merge, as it's known in Survivor's new era.

Watch David Kinne read the tree mail to his fellow Lagi players and see their reactions.

Why we need the merge in Survivor 48

I'm super excited that the game is changing in Survivor 48! This game has been so one-sided through five episodes that there are players who have yet to go to Tribal Council yet. By my calculation, David Kinne, Eva Erickson, Star Toomey, and Charity Nelms have yet to cast a vote! That's wild, and it's basically the opposite of what we had happen in Survivor 47.

We've already seen a tribe swap to even things up, and it did a little bit, but there's still a few players who have yet to really sink their teeth into the game yet, and that's been a little frustrating to watch. The winner of Survivor 48 might not cast a vote until episode 6! That's wild!

So, what happens next? Assuming Survivor 48 will follow the pattern, we'll see the remaining 13 players split into two groups. They'll compete with each other for reward, but I believe there will be an individual immunity challenge portion with the losing tribe heading for Tribal Council. Remember, in Survivor 47, Rachel LaMont ended up on the tribe with the former Tuku players, but she was saved by Sol Yi gifting her Safety Without Power.

Based on the episode description, it sounds like we're going to see something wild that happens at camp before the Earn the Merge portion of the game ends. Then, we're going to see quite a bit of gossiping at the Mergatory reward feast. After that, who knows?

I can't wait to see these players really get the chance to compete now that the tribe portion of the game is over. They haven't reached the merge yet. They have to earn by completing the challenges and having a little luck swing their way, but it's going to be super fun to see these players adapt again a few episodes after a big tribe swap.

Watch Survivor 48 episode 6 on Wednesday, April 2, on CBS and Paramount+ at 8 p.m. ET!
