The Survivor 48 cast are in for a tough challenge this on this week's new episode of Survivor!
CBS shared another new sneak peek for Survivor 48 episode 2, "Humble Traits," and it revealed the first minute of the immunity and reward challenge in the new episode. It's going to be a brutal challenge by the looks of it!
We've all seen variations of this challenge before, but there are some new twists. As we see in the short video clip, Mary Zheng of the Vula tribe, Shauhin Davari of the Lagi tribe, and David Kinne of the Civa tribe jump off a giant platform, swim under and over obstacles, untie buoys, and complete the course. The other players will likely follow, but the clip ends before the next group of players jumps in.
The clip ends with Jeff yelling, "Everybody wants it out here!"

That's about the best hype video as we've seen in Survivor in a long time! I love the sneak peeks of the new episodes, and this is a great look at what's going to be a fascinating challenge. Obviously, there are some really talented physical players on this season of Survivor. It looks like the Vula tribe is overmatched in a challenge like this, but the water is a great equalizer. Even strong swimmers can struggle in challenges like this, but if that happens, it usually means those not as comfortable in the water have an even harder time.
In the clip, we do see Mary get the Vula tribe off to a good start in the challenge against Shauhin and David, two of the stronger players of the season. I'm also worried about Kevin Leung, who reportedly dislocated or separated his shoulder in the season premiere. I've never dislocated my shoulder, but I have had shoulder injuries. Trying to swim with a shoulder injury seems like a major pain! We'll see if Kevin is able to power through the injury and if it will affect his tribe.
Challenges like this can have a big impact on the season, as we've seen in the past. This kind of challenge usually puts a lot of pressure on players who are not as phsyically dominant. It's easy to target those players for "tribe strength" and vote them out, so it's going to be really interesting to see how it plays out. On paper, the Lagi and Civa tribes do appear to have a physical advantage over the Vula tribe, and if the Vula tribe loses again, they'll be down two players just two episodes into the season. That's not good at all.
We'll just have to wait and see what happens in Survivor 48 episode 2 on Wednesday, March 5. I also recommend watching the heartfelt moment between Mitch Guerra and Jeff Probst in the other sneak peek CBS shared from the second episode of the season, as well.
