Eva Erickson just missed winning Survivor 48 by three votes. If three voters change their vote from Joe Hunter or votes from Kyle Fraser, Eva is the Sole Survivor and winner of Survivor 48. She'd also be $1 million richer!
Obviously, the season and Final Tribal Council didn't play out the way Eva wanted the season to, in that respect, but she's not letting that second-place finish deter her from playing Survivor again. In fact, Eva is using it as fuel for the next time she plays the game.
According to Eva's exit interview with Dalton Ross of Entertainment Weekly, Eva said she's ready to play again and win.
Here's what Eva told EW:
"Absolutely. I need to go back and win. I'm too competitive to be happy with second place."
Of all of the players on Survivor 48, Eva was easily one of the most competitive players. We saw how frustrated she became with not playing the physical game that she expected to play, but she was able to adapt and use her social game to find a great alliance and ride with that alliance to the Final Three. She nearly pulled off the upset victory after her performance at Final Tribal Council, too. I was definitely worried for Kyle after hearing Eva explain different aspects of her game.
I would be happy to see Eva return for another season. I think we'd see a more confident social player who was maybe willing to take more risks. I do think how Survivor 48 played out worked to Eva's advantage, so I would be interested to see how her game would change or develop with another opportunity.
As things stand, it looks like there will be two Survivor 48 players returning for Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans. According to Inside Survivor, there is one player basically confirmed from Survivor 48, while another is not, but it looks like there are two players in contention to compete for Survivor 50.
The Survivor 50 cast will be announced on Wednesday, May 28, so we're going to learn quickly if Eva is coming back for the new season. It seems like there will be other former runner-ups in contention for that season, as well.
There are a few other players from Survivor 48 we'd love to see in Survivor 50, too, but Eva's definitely on my list. I really hope, as a fan favorite, she gets the opportunity to compete again, even if it's not on Survivor 50, but another season featuring returning players.
Stay tuned for more news about Survivor 50!
