Fans have a lot of questions going into tonight’s new episode of Survivor 50. Episode 4, “Knife to the Heart,” hints that we might get our first big betrayal of the season. That on top of the fact that we left off last episode with new tribe dynamics after a swap, anything could happen.
And with Q Burdette’s exit, we’re now down to 20 players, which means the castaways on the island officially outnumber the days left in the game. Could some double eliminations be coming our way? We’re definitely had a shakeup each episode so far, so I expect something big to happen tonight.
And when I say big, I mean even bigger than a celebrity appearance. Some of our players are starting to get comfortable and—as Q’s elimination demonstrated—that’s never a good place to be in this game.
Post-Tribal Council ponderings
As Vatu returns from Tribal Council, Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick is upset about the Q blindside, but brushes everything off publicly as the nature of the game. Emily Flippen is thrilled her plan worked and now wants to team up with Ozzy Lusth moving forward, aware that Christian Hubicki’s maybe too close to his former Survivor: David vs. Goliath castmates, Angelina Keeley and Mike White.
Ozzy reveals to Emily the real reason he was pushing for Angelina to go—he wants her out of the pictures so she can be Mike’s top ally. He tells Stephenie they need to get rid of Angelina at the next chance, and she agrees. But Angelina has other ideas, after having almost played her Shot in the Dark, she needs to keep Stephenie comfortable so she won’t play it and they can get her out next.
Survivor 50 talent shows & idol searching
Kamilla Karthigesu, Dee Valladares, and Cirie Fields judge a Cila beach talent show that includes juggling by Rick Devens, a Mickey Mouse impression by Rizo Velovic, and a stunt fight between Jonathan Young and Charlie Davis. Rizo takes first and in a confessional, Charlie admits he’s upset losing anything to “the RizGod” after finding out he voted for Savannah Louie over Sophi Balerdi in the season 49 finale.
Charlie declares Rizo his mortal enemy, though Rizo has no idea he’s earned the title.
Over on the Kalo beach, Aubry Bracco, feeling on the bottom of her tribe, searches for their Billie Eilish Boomerang Idol. Genevieve Mushaluk clocks her and starts looking for it simultaneously, finding it herself and passing it along to Rizo who she feels is naive enough to trust her and not think she’s setting him up to be blindsided by her.

Big reactions and bigger rewards
All three tribes arrive at the challenge arena for reward and immunity. Cila and Kalo are stunned to see that Q was the one to go home. Jeff Probst acknowledges the reaction before announcing a twist on today’s challenge. The first two tribes win immunity, but only the first tribe earns reward.
And for reward, he announces something the show has never done before. Country singer Zac Brown walks out of the jungle and Jeff shares that the winning tribe—and only the winning tribe—will get to spend an afternoon at the sanctuary with Zac who’s putting together a spear-fishing feast for them before he puts on a mini concert.
Cirie sits out for Cila and Genevieve sits out for Kalo, but their tribe mates kick off the challenge and start in the lead with Vatu falling behind at the first obstacle. Vatu stays behind as Cila and Kalo push through the second obstacle with Cila forcing ahead of Kalo at the third point.
Once they get to the puzzle, Kamilla wastes no time figuring out the word they need to make into an arch, directing her tribe in a larger version of the immunity challenge she won in Survivor 48. Chrissy Hofbeck calls for Kalo, but is having a hard time organizing. Cila and Kalo both get all their letters in place, but Kalo is the first to hit the mat.
Vatu never even made it to the puzzle, all six members spent in the sand, exhausted from failing the physical aspects of that challenge.

Country music: Survivor-style
While not as exciting as Jeff’s rap last week—personally—Kalo arrives at the sanctuary full of energy for an afternoon with Zac Brown. A radio plays “Chicken Fried” as they cheers over some drinks while Zac is deep in the oceans of Fiji spear-fishing for their lunch.
Zac returns to the sanctuary and grills up the fish he just caught, serving a full meal for our winners. He then plays a few songs that have all the Kalo members thinking about
Back at Cila, Dee is crying with some of her tribe mates about losing the challenge and how upset she is that she didn’t get to listen to Zac Brown’s music because of how much he means to her. She says she’s grateful that they’re not going to Tribal Council, but it doesn’t feel like a win to her because she didn’t get to experience the one-in-a-lifetime moment.
Rizo steps away to change clothes in the Fiji heat and finds the Billie Eilish Boomerang Idol that Genevieve gifted him in his bag. He’s stoked, thinking back to the tricks he played with an idol in his pocket last season—that no one here knows about.
Mike White’s greatest calling comes to action—again
Vatu comes back to camp from the challenge in a weird combination of “we all did the best we could” and “it’s frustrating that we have to return to Tribal Council.”
Ozzy voices to Mike and Christian that he wants to get rid of Angelina, but Mike pushes back, deciding it’s his life’s mission to save Angelina. He says he’s willing to go however the majority goes, but Angelina’s an easy person to keep around: she’s not a threat to win, she’s a number, and she’s easy to work with. But Ozzy secretly wants her gone so that he has a better relationship with Mike.
So Mike turns around and approaches Stephenie about potentially voting out Emily instead of Angelina. Stephenie says she’s willing to do whatever they want. Mike tells Angelina and Christian what’s going on—with her name being on the chopping block—and says he wants to switch the vote to Emily and that Stephenie’s down.
Now Christian doesn’t know what to do because he’s been working with Emily since the beginning. And while she did cause a rather big blunder last episode, he knows she’s been loyal to him as far as the votes go. So now he finds himself as the swing vote between Angelina and Stephenie.

Mike knows he has to convince Christian to go with him and pulls out a past knife, telling Christian he’s falling into the same trap with Emily as he did with Gabby Pascuzzi—who tried to vote him out in David vs. Goliath. So Christian decides to flip the script and get Mike out instead, knowing he’s a master manipulator.
He approaches Stephenie with a plan to get out Mike. If Mike and Angelina and voting for Emily and Ozzy is voting for Angelina, they only need Christian, Stephenie, and Emily to have a majority and send Mike home. But Christian’s adamant that Ozzy can’t know since he seems to be, “gunning for a White Lotus cameo.”
Christian loops Emily in on the plan and as Ozzy approaches them, she immediately tells him that Mike is coming for her, which blows up Christian’s plan. Ozzy doesn’t understand why she’s stressed since they’re all voting for Angelina. Now Christian is playing babysitter for Emily—a la Boston Rob Mariano—to ensure she doesn’t say anything she shouldn’t to blow up a plan set to save her.
However, seeing how volatile Emily can be to a plan—even when she’s the one in the line of fire—has Christian wondering if he should just go with Mike and Angelina and vote out Emily.
A whirlwind Tribal Council with a mess of targets
An afternoon at camp that included so many names being dropped—Stephenie, then Angelina, then Emily, then Mike—moves into a Tribal Council based around relationships and gut instincts. Mike makes it a point to say that when figuring out what name to write down, it’s easy to know that there are some people you’d rather lose with vs. playing with the people you know you can win with.
He then expands on one of Jeff’s questions by basically saying his job is to manipulate people into taking a chance on what he wants to happen. Christian worries about his answer, responding with his own mention of how playing the game before changed how he lives and works and how he entered this season.
That then sparks concern with Emily who announces she’s feeling worse now than she did when she arrived. Basically declaring to everyone that she’s thinking she’s the target now and everyone here is lying to her.

Who was voted out of Survivor 50 episode 4?
After all those discussions, Mike was voted out in a 3-2-1 vote. Christian, Emily, and Stephenie teamed up for the majority against Mike and Angelina’s Emily vote and Ozzy’s lone Angelina vote.
Mike’s impressed with everyone for the blindside, but shocked it happened. However, he’s not as shocked as Ozzy, who appears to be even more betrayed than Mike. As Vatu walks out of Tribal Council, Christian leans over to Ozzy, saying he’ll catch him up, but all Ozzy replies is, “Too late.”
Next Time on Survivor…
When Ozzy decides you’re his enemy, he comes out guns blazing. And as I’ve previously compared Christian to John Cochran this season, it’ll be interesting to see how a new Ozzy/Christian rivalry plays out considering Ozzy’s relationship with Cochran back in Survivor: South Pacific.
We’re also more than due for a double Tribal Council so there’s no doubt that’s coming as well. The only question is, which two tribes are going to get hit. And as a slew of social players continue to get voted out, which two might be the next on the chopping block? Tune in next Wednesday, March 18 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+ to see what unfolds next.
