The two Survivor 50 players who have yet to receive votes (even after episode 10’s big twist)

Each season there are a few players who slip under the cracks at Tribal Council, but on Survivor 50, is that a good thing?

Fans all came into Survivor 50 with high expectations of gameplay, strategy, production-led twists, and hope that the final fan vote matched what they wanted. Overall, I think they’ve done a really great job so far living up to the demands of a 25-year-old fan base who has the last 49 seasons practically memorized—or maybe that’s just me…

But it’s safe to say it doesn’t feel like everyone came to play, or, at least, not everyone came to play the level of game necessary to go up against some of the biggest legends in Survivor history. For the most part, the selection of new era players are on par with the old school players who built the game. We see a little bit of Parvati Shallow in Dee Valladares or Aubry Bracco in Kamilla Karthigesu.

However, a few players came into the game with different strategies of attack than others which, at this point in the season, has become glaringly obvious for better or for worse. Namely, it’s become clear that Jonathan Young and Joe Hunter are not the fan favorites of the season. And after episode 10, “A Side Dish of Chaos,” they might not necessarily be on the bottom of their tribes, but from a viewer perspective there’s a clear divide between them and the other remaining players.

Epic Party
“Epic Party” – 24 returning players are abandoned on the islands of Fiji for a monumental 50th season, with the chance to win $1 million. The theme of the season, “In the Hands of the Fans,” quickly materializes as decisions from the fan vote swiftly and forcefully impact the game in Survivor 50. Which could be good for them and the right way to make it to the end, if you aren’t focused on winning, necessarily. Both those two are the only of our top 9 players to not receive any vote yet this season. Check out the full breakdown below:

  • Rick Devens - 4 total votes received
  • Tiffany Ervin - 4 total votes received
  • Rizo Velovic - 4 total votes received
  • Aubry Bracco - 3 total votes received
  • Emily Flippen - 3 total votes received
  • Ozzy Lusth - 3 total votes received
  • Cirie Fields - 1 total votes received
  • Joe Hunter - 0 total votes received
  • Jonathan Young - 0 total votes received

And based on how past seasons have gone—but not always—it’s usually the players who have had their name written down multiple times who are playing the most daring and win-worthy game. But not having your name written down after 19 days is also a testament that they must be doing something right. Because even if they’re not the masterminds of the season, the player who is kind of running the game is in a fairly close boat as them.

Cirie Fields has been absolutely dominating this season both socially and strategically. And she’s not even really hiding it from her fellow castaways. Yet the only vote she’s received was from the very first Tribal Council where Jenna Lewis-Dougherty thought they were voting for Cirie and not her. And at that point, she wasn’t even playing as hard as she is now.

So do you think these vote stats tell us we might see Jonathan and Joe make it to the end? Or is it just confirmation that they’re numbers for now, but easy targets in the long run? I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them made it to the end, but I don’t expect to see both of them there. But now that Devens has an immunity idol, it’s possible Joe, his adversary this season, could be in trouble. We’ll see how the results of the MrBeast Super Beware Advantage unfold on Wednesday, May 6 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+ when Survivor 50 dives right back in.
