There are only six players and two episodes left in Survivor 48! After watching 11 episodes this season, fans should have a pretty good idea what Eva Erickson, who has been in the majority alliance since the merge, might be planning at the Final Six.
Eva confirmed her strategy in a new clip from Survivor 48 episode 12, "Icarus Time," which airs on Wednesday, May 14, on CBS and Paramount+.
In the clip, Eva and the tribe return from Tribal Council after voting out Mary Zheng. The tribe shared all the reasons they are playing Survivor, and it got emotional. Then, Mary got voted out, and David Kinne stood up in solidarity with his ally. The clip takes place just after that.
Eva explains why she didn't play her Safety Without Power before sharing what she thinks her next move will be.
"Securing the safety of my own team is more important than securing my own safety, but I still have an idol in my pocket," Eva said. "And, from what I know, I'm the only one with any additional power. I feel really good about my position. I have a strong alliance that, now, is in the majority. With Kyle, Shauhin, Joe, and myself, that's four out of six, so it should be pretty cut and dry. We just pick off the other members."
First of all, I love Eva's confidence. Having an advantage in a hidden immunity idol and being part of the majority alliance at this point in the game must be a great feeling. On paper, Eva is in a great spot to win Survivor 48, but that's my main issue. You don't want to be the person in a good spot to win right now. It makes you a huge target.
In addition, there's a reason that this clip made the cut of Survivor 48. There's also a reason that CBS shared this on the show's YouTube channel to promote the new episode. The episode is called "Icarus Time," obviously. We all know about Icarus, and if you don't, Icarus's story is one of learning the dangers of hubris. It's about becoming too confident and ignoring wisdom.
Again, on paper, things look really good for Eva, but she's also a huge threat. Could she be the target of a major blindside? Assuming Eva doesn't win immunity, there's a chance that she could feel so secure in her alliance that she opens herself up to an epic blindside and gets sent home with an immunity idol in her pocket.
Is that what the episode title is referencing? There's definitely that potential with Eva, but it's also possible that it could be a misdirection, as well.
In the past, we've seen the show share clips and sneak peeks that lean into some of the fan theories about what's going to happen this episode. In another clip that TV Line shared, Kamilla Karthigesu tries to convince Kyle Fraser to flip on his alliance and vote out Joe Hunter. If Joe is unavailable, Eva could be the next best option for Kyle and Kamilla, but that move carries extreme risk with Eva's idol.
I don't know exactly what's going to happen in Survivor 48 episode 12, but it sure seems like we're setting up for something epic. I'm standing like David Kinne waiting for the new episode to drop in the meantime. Stay tuned for more news about the new episode!
