Though it has had its ups and downs, I’d argue that Survivor Ghost Island is a great season for diving into the intricacies of the show. It’s easier to dive into edgic due to the fact that just two players have been in contention for half the season. Due to it being a newbie season, spoilers have been relatively diminished. It even introduces relics from past seasons, getting new fans hooked on the good stuff.
Unfortunately, the fact that it’s clear Domenick will likely win the season (with Wendell being a possible upset win candidate) has made the season’s storylines predictable. “Naviti Strong” was a phrase being uttered a month after the game started and weeks after the tribes merged. Superfans played smart, but boring and predictable, games all season.
If there’s any solace to be had, it’s that there is always the opportunity for something better just around the corner. The anticipation for Survivor season 37 is reaching its peak, and we’ll finally see some of what’s in store with a preview during the live studio reunion. So far, we can expect a “David vs. Goliath” type of contest, with underappreciated players taking on titans of industry.
To give Ghost Island some credit, there are some loose strings to tie up. We still haven’t seen Lauren Rimmer’s ghost of a shell (idol), and we don’t know how the Final Four fire-making twist will be implemented to players who knew the stakes going into the finale. Perhaps the two will be tied together somehow?
With every player left in the game having received a vote and a likely split jury decision coming, the Perfect Game is off the table. History may not be made, but you should still watch the Survivor Ghost Island finale live stream online later tonight for closure’s sake if anything.
