Survivor is now on a very long summer break (but we already know when Survivor 49 starts)

It's a good time to rewatch old seasons of Survivor because the show is taking a very long break before Survivor 49 starts.
“Only One of Yous Can Win” – The $1 million dollars is closer than ever as the remaining castaways enter the final stretch of the game. A major come-from-behind win earns one person a trip to the sanctuary and a spot in the final four. Then, a tumultuous fire-making showdown determines the final three. One castaway will be crowned Sole Survivor and awarded the $1 million prize, on the season 48 finale, followed by the After Show, hosted by Jeff Probst, on SURVIVOR, Wednesday, May 21 (8:00-11:00

Survivor 48 is finally over! After a great season and a very deserving winner was crowned, Survivor is set for its longest break between seasons of its production cycle before Survivor 49 begins.

I hope Survivor fans are ready for a four-month break because that's exactly what's in store. After Survivor 48 came to an end on Wednesday, May 21, fans will be waiting until at least September until Survivor 49 premieres on CBS and Paramount+.

While we don't know the premiere date for Survivor 49 yet, we do know that Survivor 49 is confirmed for a fall premiere on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+.

Jeff Probst also shared the first look at Survivor 49 during the After Show in the season finale.

While it's great to have the first look at the new season, it's still a bummer that fans have so long to wait between seasons. Survivor's winter break is a lot shorter than the summer break. For example, the gap between Survivor 47 and Survivor 48 was only a two-month break, basically. Survivor 47 ended on Dec. 18, 2024. Survivor 48 premiered on Feb. 26, 2025. We have at least double that until Survivor 49!

Looking at previous premiere dates for fall seasons of Survivor, we're probably looking at Sept. 17 or Sept. 24 as the premiere date for Survivor 49. There's a small chance it could be bumped to Oct. 1, but I doubt they'll make us wait that long. I know it's just one more week, but Survivor seasons almost never premiere in October. I can only count one October premiere in the show's first 48 seasons.

The good news is that we will probably be getting some big Survivor updates in the meantime, especially with Survivor 50 looming. Jeff Probst confirmed during the season finale that the Survivor 50 cast will be announced on Wednesday, May 28, which we learned from Inside Survivor is the day the cast heads to Fiji to start filming.

Then, we'll start to see the Survivor 49 cast confirmed later this summer. I'm sure it will leak online long before that, and we'll be sure to share all the updates regarding the next season. It's guaranteed to be a good one!

Then, we'll get Survivor 49 this fall. I'm assuming that the season will air from September to December again, like Survivor 47. Up next, we'll see the Survivor 50 premiere in February 2026. That's already been confirmed by CBS.

We'll share more updates about Survivor 49 when we find out. For now, settle in and rewatch some old seasons of Survivor while you wait.
