4 underrated players who just might win Survivor 47
By Bryce Olin
There are only four more episodes of Survivor 47 before the season finale! With only 10 players left in the game, we're getting closer and closer to crowning another winner and Sole Survivor.
There are more than a few players who are playing great games in the final stretch of the season. While we've made a few picks for who we think will win, some players are underrated and overlooked so far and need to be considered real contenders to win Survivor 47.
We picked four underrated players who could definitely win Survivor 47 if the remaining episodes go their way! Let's get the list started with the first player I thought was a goner of the Survivor 47 cast, Gabe Ortis!
Gabe Ortis
I thought Gabe started the game way too aggressively during the season premiere. Like Rome Cooney, he was running around the island looking for idols. He was performing well in challenges during the tribe portion of the game. Tuku only voted out one player before the merge, more than the other two tribes, and Gabe was solid in helping his tribe.
I thought, because of that, Gabe would be one of the first people targeted, but he is a part of the most solid alliance in the game with Sue Smey and Caroline Vidmar. They have shielded Gabe from the few times that his name has popped up. And, they did not waver at all when Tiyana Hallums and Kyle Ostwald tried to vote him out after the merge when Rachel LaMont played her Safety Without Power.
Gabe is in an incredible spot in the game. It seems like he has Sue's blind trust, and as of right now, Caroline wants to continue to work with him. Eventually, they might pick each other off, but Gabe looks like he has a real shot to win the game. It doesn't seem like he's pulling the strings strategically on every vote, but he's giving his allies confidence and staying out of the hot seat, which is the perfect spot to be in right now. Kyle is a much bigger threat after winning all three immunity challenges after the merge, so Gabe is shielded for now. If he can stick together with Sue and Caroline, I will be shocked, at this point, if Gabe doesn't make the final five.
He's playing a great game so far!
Sue Smey
Initially, I thought Sue's attitude and the way that she held a grudge against Kyle would be her undoing, but that has not been the case so far. It's not only that but she's proven to be one of the strongest competitors in the individual challenges. She won the immunity challenge in episode 8, which definitely shifted the target from the former Tuku members to the former Gata members, which resulted in Sierra Wright going home.
Sue is taking risks in the game, and she has a hidden immunity idol, but she's very smart about sticking with her tight alliance. If Sue continues with Gabe and Caroline and they remain part of the majority, Sue is in an excellent place. I think she is building a great resume. She's made connections in the social game. She's "several" years older than she told everyone, and when she reveals that at final tribal council after kicking all their butts in challenges, she's going to win. No doubt about it!
Sol Yi
Sol Yi has played a weird game so far. He got stuck on the tribe with Rome, and he ended up butting heads with Rome, which led to him feeling like he was on the bottom, fighting for his spot in the game, and generally trying to just stick around. Since Rome has been gone, Sol has really started to make some big moves in the game.
First of all, he basically flipped Andy after he voted for Andy during the Rome vote. Sol thought he was going to be voted out if Rome played an idol, so he and Sue voted for Andy as the backup. Sol revealed it was Sam who was okay with the backup votes going on Andy. He gained Andy's trust, and it looks like they are working together.
Beyond that, Sol made a huge move in saving Rachel after she ended up at tribal council with all of the Tuku players in episode 7. Sol gained another ally who is probably the best and most strategic player in the game right now in Rachel. He already has something with Genevieve Mushaluk and Teeny Chiriichillo as former Lavo members. With Andy and Rachel seemingly on the bottom, Sol has a chance to ally with those two, form a trio, and have as good of a chance as any remaining players to reach the end. We also know he's building a strong bond with Kyle. Honestly, I didn't know Sol had this in him, but his social game is growing. Now, if he can pull off a few more moves, Sol could win this game.
Andy Rueda
I will admit that I wrote off Andy during the first episode when he basically revealed to the other tribes that he was not a serious contender in the game. It seems to have worked to Andy's advantage. He has not been targeted, outside of Sol and Sue's backup plan votes when all three tribes came together for the first time. Then, he was basically the clinching vote in taking out his former Gata tribe member Sierra Wright.
Had Andy held firm with his original alliance of the Gata members, the former Lavo and Tuku members would not have had the votes to take out Sierra and split the original vote with Sam Phalen. Andy was the reason that plan worked, and Sam and Sierra's alliance crumbled right before their eyes.
It's not easy to see a path for Andy to make the final three, but honestly, I thought he would have been voted out by now. He's helped pull off two major blindsides in the last few episodes. If Andy continues to work with the right people and he gets lucky in a challenge or two, there's a chance he's going to be sitting there at the end. At that point, all bets are off!
